world weather
I'm now providing RSS feeds of weather forecasts.
It uses worldweather.org for the data.
warning
This is an alpha release - no guarantees it will work at all. Also, it's a screenscraper, so if worldweather change their html, it will break. Horribly. I will be changing how the feeds are presented, and maybe even where the feeds live. Please mail me if anything doesn't work, and to make sure you know what's going on (see below). If worldweather hasn't got a forecast for your city, there's nothing I can do I'm afraid.
examples
Here are some example feeds:
- London - http://weather.nearperfect.com/weather/world.rss/010/c00032

find a feed
Fill in your city and choose any options. Please note that worldweather.org only has certain cities, and these are not always the major city in each region. Please check on the worldweather site if you're having trouble.
get in touch
If you do subscribe to a feed, I'd be grateful if you could mail me on weather@undergroundlondon.com, telling me which city you're subscribed to (or give me your feed url). Please! Feedback is appreciated, especially as I try a few different things.
manual feed creation
To work out a feed for your city manually:
- go to worldweather.org and find your city
- take the URL, and replace www.worldweather.org with weather.nearperfect.com/weather/world.rss
- take off the .html at the end
- subscribe to the new shiny URL in your news aggregator
As an example, London -
In worldweather, the url is:
http://www.worldweather.org/010/c00032.htm, which turns into:
http://weather.nearperfect.com/weather/world.rss/010/c00032
farenheit
You imperial lovers are also catered for - add an 'f' to the end (as seen on the worldweather site):
e.g. http://weather.nearperfect.com/weather/world.rss/010/c00032f
options
You can change the output. Add these to the end of the url. Currently the options are
- ?type=plain - this has plain text in the descriptions rather than html
- ?type=title - this puts weather data in the titles of the entries as well as the descriptions
So, for the London example, for info in titles the URL becomes:
http://weather.nearperfect.com/weather/world.rss/010/c00032?type=title
Phew!
props
There are several other people thinking about this too - have a look at the sterling work by B Mann and Kellan. Thanks for your help. Also look at this quicktopic.
future
I am going to be trying different presentational methods. Also I've got a number of ideas to make feed-finding easier. Feeds currently update every 12 hours - this will change.
This is an unofficial feed. Worldweather.org, and all associated organisations, have nothing to do with this site. All data remains copyright of the respective meteorological organisation. Please don't abuse this. For personal consumption only.
